Konya Metropolitan Municipality is implementing the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality is implementing a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), which has been becoming increasingly widespread throughout the world with the help of the European Union Grant Fund.

The European Union is providing a fund of approximately 500,000 Euros for the program.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality has begun preparing a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan to carry out its sustainable transportation efforts within the scope of a plan for the future of the city.

Financed by the European Union within the scope of the Component A Grant Fund under the Sustainable Cities Project, which is carried out in Turkey for Konya, together with the World Bank and ILBANK, the “Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP)” will be implemented in Konya with a fund of approximately 500,000 Euros.

In line with this, a meeting was held at the Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Department with the participation of municipal departments, ILBANK technical personnel, and the contractor firm to discuss means of harmonizing transport technology and clean energy to create livable cities.

Sustainable mobility planning not only aims to regulate and accelerate traffic flow for a better quality of life, but also deals with the environmental, economic and social dimensions of accessibility. We are working to ensure the participation of all stakeholders and citizens within the scope of the program by preparing a website from which everyone can access information, by sharing SUMP principles with stakeholders, and by developing an open and transparent approach, taking into account the long-term vision of our city and the environmental factors; we are also working to ensure the integration of this new planning approach, which is built on the concept of participation of experts from different disciplines and the public, into our major transportation plans that are already available.

Distinguished by its environmentally friendly projects, Konya Metropolitan Municipality is developing plan decisions and practices in line with SUMP principles. Konya Metropolitan Municipality has implemented several important projects, including a public transportation fleet of environmentally-friendly tram vehicles and buses; a public transportation line optimization study; a “Cycling Transportation Master Plan”; 550 kilometers of bicycle paths; four bicycle bridges in the city; a bicycle tram; bicycle empathy training; traffic signal units for cyclists; double-stored parking lots for bicycles; bicycle waiting stations; bicycle repair stations; awareness-raising efforts to create a cycling culture; pedestrianization zones; and an electric-scooter service.
